I grew up wanting to be the software engineer from Tamil cinema. The background music never showed up, but the bugs did.

As a kid, I wanted to be the software engineer from a Tamil movie—the one who flew back from the US with a laptop and big ideas. That dream led me to robotics, PC builds, and eventually a last-minute AI & Data Science choice in college. Turns out, it became my career.

These days I'm a full stack developer at Southern Guild, based in Bangalore now though I grew up in Coimbatore. I build the way I learned to at school — as a team, owning the whole thing instead of a slice. I'll take a feature from the first schema migration to the query that runs 12× faster to the interface people actually touch.

The concrete version: at Southern Guild, I wrestled Zitadel into a reusable auth SDK built straight from the docs, making the integration fully dynamic and configurable. I also scaled a NestJS backend handling 6M+ PostgreSQL records (40% faster) and cut natural-language search latency from 250ms to 20ms.

Curiosity gets me into rabbit holes. Good questions get me out. I still think the best products are the ones that save someone even a single paisa.

எல்லாம் சினிமால தான் ஆரம்பிச்சது

உண்மையா சொல்லணும்னா, முதல் தீப்பொறி வந்தது தமிழ் சினிமால இருந்துதான். சின்ன ஊர்ல இருந்து போற பையன், ஒரு laptop-உம் பெரிய கனவுகளும் தூக்கிட்டு software engineer-ஆ ஊருக்கு திரும்பி வர்ற மாதிரி படங்கள பாத்துத்தான் நான் வளர்ந்தேன். software engineering-னா என்னன்னு அப்போ எனக்குத் தெரியாது—ஆனா ஏதாவது ஒரு முக்கியமான விஷயத்தை உருவாக்கணும்னு மட்டும் தெரியும்.

சில வருஷம் கழிச்சு, டாக்டர் ஏ.பி.ஜெ. அப்துல் கலாம் கூட வேலை செஞ்ச ஒருத்தர் என் ஸ்கூல் Subash Matric-க்கு வந்தார். அவர் பேரு எனக்கு ஞாபகம் இல்ல, ஆனா அவர் சொன்ன ஒரு வரி இன்னைக்கும் காதுல ஒலிக்குது: மக்களுக்கு ஒரே ஒரு பைசாவாவது மிச்சப்படுத்துற மாதிரி ஏதாவது உருவாக்குங்க. அந்த யோசனை என் மனசுல ஆழமா பதிஞ்சிடுச்சு. அன்னிக்கு அப்புறம், விஷயங்கள் எப்படி வேலை செய்யுதுன்னு கத்துக்கறதுல மட்டும் எனக்கு ஆர்வம் இல்ல—அதை நானே உருவாக்கணும்னு நினைச்சேன்.

hardware பக்கம் ஒரு சுத்து

நிச்சயமா நான் hardware-ல தான் போய் முடிவேன்னு நினைச்ச ஒரு காலகட்டம் இருந்துச்சு. Robotics ஒரு பைத்தியமா ஆயிடுச்சு, ஜப்பான்ல நடக்கிற tech expos தான் எனக்கு Netflix, ஒவ்வொரு மாசமும் துரத்த ஒரு புது கனவு ரெடியா இருக்கும்.

அப்புறம் Linus Tech Tips கண்ணுல பட்டுச்சு, PC build பண்றது மெதுவா ஒரு பைத்தியமா மாறிடுச்சு. ஒரு computer-ல என்னென்ன இருக்கு, ஏன் இருக்குன்னு கத்துக்கிட்டே என் high school நேரம் மொத்தத்தையும் கழிச்சேன். அடுத்த step hardware engineering-தான்னு நேரடியா தோணுச்சு.

எனக்கு வழி காட்டினவங்க

என்மேல ரொம்ப பெரிய தாக்கம் ஏற்படுத்தினது என் அக்காக்கள் வினோவும் ஆர்த்தியும்தான். ரெண்டு பேரும் சென்னைல top MNC-ல நல்ல வேலை வாங்கினாங்க—நான் வளர்ந்த ஊர்ல அது ஒரு பெரிய விஷயம். ஒவ்வொரு தீபாவளிக்கும் வீட்டுக்கு வருவாங்க, திரும்பிப் போறதுக்கு முன்னாடி அதே அறிவுரையை எனக்கு சொல்லிட்டுத்தான் போவாங்க:

"நல்லா படி, நல்ல வேலை வாங்கு, குடும்பத்தைப் பாத்துக்க." அப்போ எனக்கு அது புரியல, ஆனா அந்த வார்த்தைகள் என்கூடவே நின்னுடுச்சு.

ஒரு டிக் எல்லாத்தையும் மாத்திடுச்சு

என்னோட 12th results வந்தப்போ, engineering counselling என் பக்கம் சாதகமா வேலை செய்யாதுன்னு எனக்குத் தெரிஞ்சிடுச்சு. கற்பகம்ல சேரலாம்னு ஏற்கனவே நினைச்சிட்டு இருந்தேன், KPR இன்னொரு option-ஆ இருந்தது. அப்புறம் ஸ்ரீ ஈஸ்வர்-க்கு போனேன். Application நிரப்பிக்கிட்டு இருந்தப்போ, மேல ஒரு புத்தம்புது program கண்ணுல பட்டுச்சு: AI & Data Science. அதைப் பத்தி எனக்கு அதிகம் தெரியாது, ஆனா அதுல ஏதோ ஒண்ணு சரியா இருக்கும் மாதிரி தோணுச்சு, அதனால அந்த box-ல tick பண்ணிட்டேன்.

Director என்னை உள்ள கூப்பிட்டார்: "M1, M2, M3 — engineering maths ரொம்ப கஷ்டம். நீ பாஸ் பண்ணுவியா?" எனக்கு எது வேணும்னாலும், நான் எப்பவும் சொல்ற அதே பதில்தான் சொன்னேன்: "பண்ணுவேன் சார்." பண்ணிக் காட்டிட்டேன்.

ஒரு உள்ளுணர்வுல AI & Data Science-அ tick பண்ணேன். வாழ்க்கையிலயே பெஸ்ட் முடிவு.

இப்படித்தான் நான் ஒரு engineering student ஆனேன். நான் எப்படி ஒரு developer ஆனேன்னு—அந்த தூங்காத இரவுகள், முதல் வேலை, உடைஞ்சு எனக்குப் பாடம் கத்துத்தந்த விஷயங்கள்—அது வேறே கதை. அதை நான் இன்னும் எழுதிக்கிட்டுதான் இருக்கேன்.

HOW I WORK

Someone kind got here first

Whatever's got me stuck — a stubborn bug, a pattern I can't crack, some idea I cooked up at 1am — chances are someone lovely already hit it and left notes. So I learn from them, borrow the good bits with a quiet thank-you, and try to leave things a little tidier than I found them. When my version turns out handy, it goes right back to the community — the favour, happily passed along.

Curiosity in, good questions out

Curiosity drags me into rabbit holes — and a good question is how I climb back out. I'd rather ask the dumb-sounding one and actually understand than skate by on a vague guess. That's usually where the real learning is hiding.

Whoever inherits my code shouldn't need a tour guide. Clear names, an obvious shape, nothing clever for its own sake. Making it easy to read is half the job.

Getting something working is the quick part; making it genuinely good is the slow, patient one. I aim high, miss sometimes, and keep chipping at it. Perfect was never the target — a little better each time is.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Scaled a NestJS backend handling 6M+ records in PostgreSQL, cutting response times 40% and enabling 100K+ daily requests. Dropped natural-language search latency 12× (250ms → 20ms) with a custom retrieval layer, and led a RAG chat app to MVP in under 8 weeks with 500+ users.
